As a child my initial thoughts of a boxing day during Christmas was an international day set aside for boxing events until recently my personal research educated me on what a valuable day it meant.
And on the 26th of December 2014, I experienced what it really meant when the Quick Medical Consult, a team made up of young health professionals who decided to reach out with gifts and health screening to a remote community in Accra called Obom.

According to the CEO, Mr. Benson Owusu, they were informed about the poor health status of the people which the elders confirmed as a result of inadequate medical staff to care for the large population, accident victims and pregnant women are carried on motorbikes which mostly result in complications.
The village, Obom which faces lots of developmental problems is situated on the outskirt of the major city, Accra. With a visit to the hospital that serves about 20 communities around, they can only boast of one stethoscope and other few apparatus with very few staffs.

The educational background of the young people was also not encouraging as most of the teenage girls were either pregnant or carrying a baby with most of them who can?t boast of a BECE certificate.
In a special interaction with Moses Botchway, the President he pledge the support of his organisation in mobilizing funds to supply the hospital with their needed apparatus and also raise funds to purchase an ambulance to facilitate their movement of patient as to the usual use of motorbikes even to carry pregnant women.

The team is also making arrangements to enroll the indigenes onto the National Health Insurance scheme, Kofi Mensah co-founder of the social enterprise also shared with me.

But aside this end of year outreach, the Quick Medical Consult has also sponsored a child for surgery with Megacolon, a disease that makes it difficult for one to free his bowels, organised countless health screening and counselling especially in deprived areas all in 2014.
These are young people doing amazing things on their own and really deserve the support to help them reach out to more people across the country.
