Rain Storm Claims Ghc400,000 in Effutu Constituency

wpid-aptopix20summer20storms-666095806v2grid-6x2.jpgThe Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu constituency Hon.?Alexander Kwamina?Afenyo- Markin, has stated ,that the effect of the recent torrential rain storm on the ?fisher folks in the Effutu constituency destroyed items ?which value is estimated to be in the region of four hundred ?thousand Ghana cidis.

According to ?Hon. Afenyo- Markin, the people at Winneba for the past ?four years has been experiencing ?rainstorm which result ?in the destruction of the tools being used by the fisher folks .
“The rainstorm that hit Winneba ?and its ?environs on 19th may 2013 was worse, ?as it brought in ?its wake the destruction of ?50 canoes, some outboard motors and unspecified number of fishing nets” he said
the ?MP for Effutu constituency made this pronouncement on the floor of Parliament yesterday when delivering a statement.
Advancing his argument Mr.Afenyo- Markin, said that, promises by government officials to assist the victims are always not fulfilled but this time, he made a humble appeal to government and other stakeholders to consider it a matter of urgency to come to the aid of the ?affected people.
He lamented that,it is rather unfortunate that,when such incidence occur, the fisher folks are left to fight their own battle for survival since there are no measures to compensates them in such situation.
He pleaded with the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development to mobilize the various insurance companies to come out with an insurance policy that will suit the fisher folks across the country so that in the event of such incident they will be compensated to enable them ?reorganize their activities .
His statement was supported by some Members of the House who argued that such a statement could not have been admitted at a better time, considering the season .
most of them who add their voice to the statement ?agreed that, ?the country should ?encourage insurance policies are ?make attractive for people to participate .
