Rainbow Radio International 87.5fm which operates live studios in Accra and London has the second highest number of nominations in the 2014 Radio and Television Personality (RTP) awards slated for 4th October, 2014.
The station received seven nominations in all, falling behind the one with the most by only one.
This year?s number is a marked improvement on the station?s performance in last year?s awards, where it pulled three nominations and won two in the end.
Agyeman Prempeh is defending his trophy as the reigning RADIO GOSPEL SHOW HOST OF THE YEAR. ?Agyeman has also been nominated in two other categories this year.
They are RADIO ENTERTAINMENT TALK SHOW HOST OF THE YEAR and RADIO PROGRAMME OF THE YEAR 2014 for his entertainment programme, GH Entertainment Show which is aired every Saturday between the hours of 4pm and 6pm.
The show brings together high profile showbiz personalities to talk about current issues in the entertainment industry.
Sunday mornings have never been the same since Agyemang Prempeh first hit the airwaves with Rainbow Church on Rainbow Radio. It is inspiring to see him don the clerical collar on Sunday mornings between the hours of 7 and 10, dishing out words of admonition based on sound biblical principles and lasing it beautifully with motivational songs.
His brand of sermon and choice of inspiring songs during this show have now become the mainstay of millions of Christians who for one reason or the other are not able to attend church services on Sunday morning.
Quophi Okyeame and his Away Bus Crew have also been tipped to defend their title as the BEST LATE AFTERNOON SHOW OF THE YEAR.
Quophi Okyeame, affectionately called the Master Driver of the show, signs on at exactly 4pm with crispy motivational massages and drives the show till 7pm, holding the whole city of Accra and beyond spellbound.
The ?Supreme Selector?, DJ Collins, who himself has been nominated for the RADIO DJ OF THE YEAR 2014, dishes out a healthy blend of highlife, hip life, afro pop, oldies and ?others to make the listener?s return commute a pleasant experience .
The funniest man on radio in Ghana today spices up the show when the ?Foolish conductor?, Baba Spirit of the Away Bus Crew, takes his seat at exactly 6:30pm with his usual sarcastic and satirical humor, thereby lightening up the airways.
Rainbow Radio?s current affairs News programme, ?Nyankonton Mu Nsem? has been given the nod for the first time to compete and win the award as RADIO NEWS PROGRAMME OF THE YEAR 2014.
Led by the News Editor, Kwaku Antwi-Otoo, alias ?Quarter Master?, the team gathers and disseminates current and pressing issues in our society and speak to the people who matter to effect change. Nyankonton Mu Nsem is on at 7am to 7:30am, 1pm to 2pm and 7pm to 7:30pm.
Nyankonton Mu Nsem is unique in news broadcast in Ghana because it is resourced by presenters whose background span the various Akan sub dialects.
Whiles Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman and Pomaa Kyekyeku (PK) present the bulletin in Asante Twi, Afia Afriyie Nimako blends the Asante Twi with Bono during her rendition whereas Kwadwo Asiedu Ansah delivers in impeccable Akuapem Twi. Nana Ekua Ahema also adds a touch of finesse to the presentation with fluid Fante Twi.
Friday afternoons are most exciting when the team parades three separate dialects to serve the audience with the news in Akuapem, Fante and Asante and Bono Twi, making Nyankonton Mu Nsem the most diverse in terms of delivery medium and taste.
Other new nominations which Rainbow Radio picked this year include DJ Collins, who is gunning for RADIO DJ OF THE YEAR AWARD and the final nominee to complete Rainbow Radio?s seven glorious nominations is George Yaw Okyere, competing for BEST RADIO PERSONALITY GREATER ACCRA REGION 2014.
An astute broadcaster and actor, George Yaw Okyere, whose fans, friends, foes, folks, family and fellows feel free to refer to as GYO, signs on every morning from Monday to Friday at exactly 6am with Frontline which he co-hosts with his colleague in Rainbow Radio?s London studios, Kwaku Owusu Frinpong.
They link the two continents of Africa and Europe together to serve the listeners with an exciting breakfast show, second to none in Accra and in London.
