Workers at Rango Construction Limited, the firm managing the Suame Interchange project, have resumed their duties following management’s assurance of a pay increase.
The workforce, which includes steel benders, welders, drivers, and truck operators, had previously halted work and protested over unmet promises of wage hikes, as well as demands for improved transportation and feeding allowances.
The temporary work stoppage did not impede the progress of the interchange’s overpasses and link roads.
The Construction and Building Materials Workers Union intervened to mediate, leading to successful discussions between the workers and management.
The Ashanti Regional Industrial Relations Officer, Eric Kontor, confirmed that the negotiations resolved all outstanding issues.
“The workers are back on-site, and all pending matters have been addressed,” Kontor said.
“The situation was largely due to miscommunication, and we aim to prevent similar issues.”
After several meetings with management, the workers resumed their construction site roles.
