Former France international Raphael Varane has moved significantly to Serie A newcomers Como, signing a two-year contract after departing Manchester United earlier this summer.
The 31-year-old defender, who enjoyed a successful stint at Real Madrid before his tenure at Old Trafford, joins Como under the leadership of newly appointed manager Cesc Fabregas.
Varane, renowned for his defensive prowess and extensive experience, expressed his excitement about linking up with Fabregas in a coaching capacity after facing him as a competitor on numerous occasions.
“I will meet Cesc again, but this time not as an opponent,” Varane remarked. “I am thrilled to join Como. I admire Cesc’s football philosophy and deep passion for the game.”
Having retired from international duty with France last year, Varane brings a wealth of experience, having amassed 93 caps for his country.
His arrival at Como comes as the club returns to Serie A following a 21-year absence, aiming to establish themselves in Italy’s top flight.
Como’s upcoming Serie A season starts with a challenging encounter against Juventus on August 19, marking Varane’s anticipated debut in Italian football’s premier league.
Despite injury setbacks during his time in England, Varane is eager to make a strong impression and contribute to Como’s campaign to retain their Serie A status.
