What Really Went Wrong With Our Dear Red Devils?

Liverpool’s aim of progressing to the next phase of the UEFA Champions League hit a knack on Tuesday as they were held 1-1 by fc Basel at the Anfield.

The Reds needed nothing short of a win to book a qualification ticket, but they left the burden on Steven Gerrard but his best was not good enough to salvage the necessary points for the four time winner’s.

The Swiss champions got the lead in the 25th minute through Fabian Frei’s stunning 20 yard strike which caught red goalie, Simon Mignolet ball watching.

Brendan Rodgers and his cow-bum-missing strike force was absent from the party as they looked disjointed and committed a lot of schoolboy errors with Raheem Sterling being the chief orchestra.

Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers gave Liverpool an unfamiliar X’mas present when he showed substitute Markovic, who had come on to replace striker Rickie Lambert at the interval with a red card for a foul on Safari.

Captain Steven Gerrard pulled the goal back for Liverpool from a master class free kick to prove that he’s not yet finished.

In Instanbul Arsene Wenger’s side responded positively to their critics as they beat Galatasaray by 4-1 with Aaron Ramsey and Lukas Podolski scoring brace.

German forward Lukas Podolski gave Arsenal the lead with just two minutes into the game when he blasted the ball into the top corner. Aaron Ramsey made it 2 for Arsenal in the 11th minute after Oxlade-Chamberlain had served him with the plate.

The Welshman made it scored his brace on the night in the 29th minute with a well scripted left volley from 30 yards to receive an applause from the home crowd.

Captain Wesley Sneijder gave the home crowd something to smile about in the 88th minute when he smacked in a free kick from 20 yards, but his goal could not be celebrated for long, as Podolski scored his second goal in time added on to give Arsenal a convincing win at the Turk Telekom Arena.
