In a gesture of support for the upcoming Homowo festival, Greater Accra Regional Minister Hon. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, accompanied by the Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth K.T. Sackey, has presented a variety of food items and drinks to paramountcies, households, and traditional leaders in Ga Mashie.
The items were distributed to crucial beneficiary paramountcies, including Sempe, Asere, Ngleshie-Alata, Abola, Gbese, Otublohum, and Akumanjen. Households such as Kpakpa Kakadan, Korle We, Oku We, and Jorbu We also received contributions.
Additionally, notable traditional leaders, including Mamprobi Sempe Mantse, Nii Ashitey Okortsoshishi, Dzaase tse, Nai Wulomo, Sakumo Wulomo, Coalition of Ga Dangme Wulomei, and Asafoatse Mankatta were included in the distribution.
The Minister and Mayor began their rounds at the Otublohum Mantse’s residence on Tuesday, where they delivered bags of maize, gallons of palm oil, crates of beer, assorted drinks, cartons of Castle Bridge, schnapps, and an undisclosed amount of money.
This contribution was made on behalf of the President and Vice President, underscoring their commitment to the unity and celebration of the Homowo festival.
Addressing the Otublohum Mantse and his entourage, Minister Glover highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to local development, noting ongoing projects such as the Jamestown Fishing Harbour, which aims to boost the local economy and improve the quality of life for residents, instilling a sense of optimism and reassurance in the audience.
The distribution continued to various locations, including Kpakpa Kakadan, Nai Wulomo, Sakumo Wulomo, and others, where both the Minister and the Mayor engaged with residents, fostering a sense of unity and celebration that everyone could partake in.
Mayor Sackey urged the Ga people to embrace peace and unity throughout the festival, emphasizing that Homowo is a time to celebrate heritage and support one another.
She underscored that the distribution of Homowo food items reflects the government’s deep dedication to preserving and honouring the city’s cultural traditions, instilling a sense of pride and connection to the audience’s heritage.
The chiefs and recipients, upon receiving the government’s support, expressed their gratitude and hopes for continued unity and communal support.
