Regional Minister Inspects Asesewa SHS Collapsing School Block

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, has inspected a collapsing school block at the Asesewa Senior High School, which has displaced over 120 students, as part of his tour to the Upper Manya Krobo District.

Mr Samuel Gyebi Yeboah, Headmaster of the school, said the affected students have been added to other classes, which has created overcrowding in the classrooms.

He indicated that, though some students are using the top part of the classroom, due to inadequate classrooms, he feared that part of the building can collapse one day.

He said a complaint has been made to the Ghana Education Service(GES), which had sent architects from the Architectural Engineering Service Limited(AESL) to evaluate the extent of damage.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako assured them of his utmost support, to ensure that the building can be used again.

The minister also visited the Asare Odometa Plantations Limited, belonging to a private entreprenuer, who has established an oil palm business, and created employment opportunities for over 1,200 people within the district.

He inspected the Akateng small town water system, an on-going one storey building District Education Directorate Office, which is almost 60 percent completed.

At the Bormase Hwenya D/A Basic School, the Regional Minister urged the pupils to utilize the opportunity given to them by their parents to study hard.

He assured the school of assisting them to acquire 200 desks for their new school block.

Mr Adu Emmanuel, Headteacher of the school, appealed to the minister to help construct a borehole, and acquire a polytank to ensure that the school has adequate water for the pupils.
