Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, recently reinstated as the Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to unite the party as it prepares for the 2024 elections.
Prof. Asiedu was suspended from his position by the national leadership of the NDC for a month, alongside Assin Central Constituency Secretary Sadiq Broni Yeboah, due to alleged anti-party conduct.
This suspension came in the wake of internal disputes, including the suspension of the party’s Parliamentary candidate for Assin Central, Nurein Shaibu Migyimah, by the Regional Committee on the grounds of alleged immoral acts and anti-party activities.
However, the Party’s General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, later nullified Migyimah’s suspension, emphasizing the need for internal harmony.
In a statement following his return, Prof. Asiedu addressed supporters in Awutu Senya East, asserting that his suspension was a measure taken to protect the party’s interests and to address issues that could impact the party’s performance in the upcoming elections.
“I came here with one purpose: to unite the party for victory in the 2024 elections,” he declared.
He urged party members to set aside grievances and work collaboratively, stressing that his suspension was intended to correct issues rather than for personal misconduct.
“I went on suspension not for stealing but to ensure that the right thing is done. It was for the interest of the party. We must all work together and avoid holding grudges,” Prof. Asiedu said.
The chairman’s return was met with a warm reception from local constituents and party members, underscoring his commitment to rallying the NDC towards a unified and successful electoral campaign.
