Say the volume shows ineptitude on the part of the AGF

The House of Representatives has ordered the House Committee on Judiciary to investigate the payment of judgment debts awarded by courts against the Federal Government.

The House, on Wednesday, also urged President Goodluck Jonathan to stop the payment of judgment claims to INTERSTELLA Communications Limited and others, pending the outcome of the investigation by the committee.

The House passed the resolution following a motion by Robinson Uwak, who argued that the volume of judgment debts against the Federal Government showed ineptitude on the part of the Attorney-General of the Federation.

“The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice has a duty of representing the government of Nigeria and protecting fully, its pecuniary and other interests,” Uwak said.

“This must be in all contractual transactions, including litigations brought against it by parties.”

INTERSTELLA Communication Limited, in a case with NITEL, is claiming N14.2 billion from the FG.

It will be recalled that Jonathan recently said that the Federal Government owed N185 billion in judgment debts, as a result of not well thought out actions of some of its officials
