Republic of Congo President Denis Sassou N’Guesso on Tuesday urged the international community to take concrete measures to eradicate the phenomenon of wildlife poaching in Africa.
“We must adopt a global strategy. We know the countries with the wildlife, we know the transit countries and we also know countries where the wildlife is destined to. So we should take concrete measures at all the three levels so that we can achieve results,” N’Guesso said when he addressed the press in Brazzaville.
He was speaking on the eve of the opening of an international conference in the country to discuss illegal exploitation and sale of African wildlife.
He said representatives of donors, development partners and African states will discuss mechanisms for funding a global strategy to fight against poaching.
He however noted that to address the menace, there’s need to identify the causes and there should be cooperation along the chain, from the source countries, transit countries and destination countries.
The president said the holding of the conference in Brazzaville is a recognition of Republic of Congo’s efforts for the protection of nature, climate and biodiversity. Enditem
