A significant traffic disruption occurred on the Accra-Tema motorway on Thursday evening, leading to a complete standstill for commuters and drivers.

The blockage resulted from a tragic hit-and-run accident in which a young girl was struck and killed by a vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported that the girl was initially hit by one car and then struck by another vehicle as she lay on the road. This distressing incident, which has deeply affected the local community, sparked significant outrage among local residents.

In response to the fatal accident, the local community united near the Interplast area of the motorway and blocked the road, demanding immediate intervention from authorities. The protesters, in a show of collective strength, have refused to allow any traffic to pass through until proper measures are taken and the authorities arrive on the scene.

Elizabeth Ocansey from Channel One TV, caught in the ensuing traffic, reported the situation to CitiNewsroom, providing details about the incident and the resulting protest. The blockade has created substantial delays and disruptions for motorway travellers.

Authorities are urgently expected to address the situation and restore order, while investigations into the hit-and-run incident are underway. The community’s reaction underscores the pressing need for improved road safety measures and greater accountability for traffic-related incidents.
