Residents along the Enchi-Elubo road in Aowin constituency of the Western North Region have blocked the main access road making it difficult for the Electoral Commission (EC) to dispatch materials to the area for the ongoing District level and unit committee elections.

The aggrieved residents who have earlier vowed to boycott Tuesday’s elections blocked the road in the late hours of Monday.

According to them, they have petitioned the government for years to fix their roads, but that has not yielded any positive results.

Some of the affected communities mounting pressure on authorities to get their roads fixed include; Kramokrom, Asemkrom, Nkwanta number one and two, Kwahu, Boinso, Omanpe, Jema, Asemkrom, Sewum and Morchikrom.

The District Police Commander in Enchi, Superintendent of Police Samuel Sando Latebu confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said they met leaders of the aggrieved residents on Friday to deliberate on the issue, but they insisted to vote only if the abandoned road was fixed.

He said the Divisional and District Police Command were currently holding meeting with the authorities of the Municipal Assembly and Electoral Commission to find lasting solutions to the issue at hand.
