Residents along the Aboabo River in the Asawase constituency have expressed joy over the on-going desilting of the river in the area.
The exercise has not only come as a big relief, but also ameliorated the fear of losing lives and property during the rainy season.
They told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during a visit to the project site at the weekend that it had always been a nightmare the raining season because of the heavy flooding.
According to them many lives and property had over the years been lost and destroyed when the river overflowed its banks during heavy rains.
They praised the government and the Ministry of Inner Cities and Zongo Development for coming to their aid to desilt the river to pave the way for the construction of drains for the river.
The residents indicated that they did not experience any flooding during the recent heavy rain in the area and called for the expansion of the bridge on the river to enable it accommodate the volume of flood that passed through it.
