Ghana’s sole male swimmer at the Rio Olympics, Abieku Gyekye Jackson, could not qualify to the next round of the men’s 50metre freestyle swimming event after finishing 6th in his heat.

The 16-year-old was hoping to improve on his personal best at the Rio Olympics but couldn’t with a time of 24.30 sec failing to qualify to the semifinals of the competition.

Meanwhile, despite Senegalese Abdul Khadre Mbaye Nianga finishing first with a time of 23.66 secs none of Jackson’s heat competitors qualified to the last sixteen.

His exit means Ghana have failed to progress in all three events competed so far at the Rio Olympics after compatriot Kaya Forson also failed to advance in the women’s 200m freestyle event.

Whiles the only female Judoka, Szandra Szogedi also failed to qualify in the Women’s 63kg event after losing to Brazilian Marian Silva
