Coach Mashaba was forced to substitute Coetzee in the first half after the player was hit with an early injury.

In a post-match interview, Mashaba said the injury as a big blow to his team adding that, “the forced substitution cost my team dearly.

?We played most part of the game without a sweeper and this affected us a lot at the back. Without him in central defence, they hit us very hard.

?You could see that they started playing long balls behind us after he went off. Losing him really cost us, because if you look, we were playing without a sweeper for the most part of the game.

?We were always allowing them to come to us one on one.?

Thuso Phala opened the scoring for Mashaba?s men after the interval before Faouzi Ghoulam, Islam Slimani and an own goal by Thulani Hlatshwayo handed the Desert Foxes victory.

South Africa will play Senegal on Friday, January 23, at the Estadio De Mongomo in Mongomo.
