At least 8 people were killed and several others injured on Saturday evening in a road crash in Nigeria’s southwestern state of Ondo, local police have said.
The accident occurred when an articulated truck lost control and ran into some shops in Akungba Akoko town in Ondo, said State Police Spokesperson Tee-Leo Ikoro.
The truck, coming from Obajana in Kogi State, rammed into the shops. “Eight dead bodies have been discovered and our men are still searching for other trapped victims,” he said.
The bodies and the injured have been rushed to a local hospital, he added.
Deadly road accidents, often caused by overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving, are frequently reported in Nigeria.
