Six people died, and nine others were injured due to a car accident in Beira, central Mozambique’s Sofala province on Monday morning.
The six lost their lives instantly on National Road N1 and some passengers were thrown out of the passenger bus (locally known as Chapa), according to police spokesman in Sofala Marito Pirauto.
Speeding was pointed out as the main cause of the accident, said Pirauto at a press conference in Beira, adding that the bus crashed into a tree after its rear tire burst.
“If the driver were driving at a moderate speed, he would have been able to control the vehicle, or maybe we wouldn’t have an accident of such magnitude,” said Pirauto.
The injured victims, seven of whom were in serious conditions, were transported to the Central Hospital of Beira, said the spokesman.
“The driver’s license was found inside the vehicle and we have already activated the mechanisms to locate him,” he said. Enditem
