At least 12 people were killed and six others injured by a minivan-cargo truck collision in Mozambique’s southern province of Maputo Friday, the public Radio Mozambique (RM) has reported.
The collision took place in the province’s Maluana district, involving a minivan transporting 18 passengers and a cargo truck, according to the report, quoting Juvenal Sigauque, a local official who spoke to RM.
“There are six injured and four of them were transferred to Maputo Central hospital, while the two patients remained at the local hospital. The number of fatal victims is 12, two of them have already been identified while the other ten remain to be identified,” said the official.
The fate of the drivers of both vehicles is not immediately known.
Excessive speeding and irregular overtaking by the passenger minivan were believed to be the cause of the tragedy. Enditem
