At least 88 lost their lives and 404 other persons injured in road crashes recorded in southern Nigeria’s Edo State, between January and May this year, a road official reported on Tuesday.

The highest number of monthly road crashes recorded within the period of review was 28, which occurred in March, while the least was 14 recorded in the month of May, Oluwasusi Familoni, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) state commander told reporters.
Familoni attributed the incidents to the disregard for traffic regulations.
Road accidents take place frequently in Nigeria due to reckless driving, bad road conditions and over packing. More than 1,000 are killed on the road each year in the country. Enditem
