A total of 423 people were killed and 2,339 others injured in road accidents across Nigeria in July, the country’s road commission said Friday.
Of the 768 road traffic accidents across the country, the July death figure represents a 41-percent increase over that of June, the agency said in its monthly Road Traffic Crash (RTC) report released in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
In June, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) recorded 738 accidents nationwide leaving 301 people dead and 2,157 others wounded.
The accident cases and the number of people injured in July were also higher than those of the previous month by 4 percent and 8 percent respectively, the FRSC added.
Speed violation accounted for 56.4 percent of the total road accidents in the month under review, thus leading other causative factors. Enditem
