Rob Rose, the former editor of South Africa’s Financial Mail, has been honoured with the prestigious Sanlam Financial Journalist of the Year award for 2023.
This recognition marks Rose’s third win of the top prize in the past decade, underscoring his sustained excellence in financial journalism over the past 15 years.
The award, presented at the 2024 Ghana International Petroleum Conference (GHiPCon), acknowledges Rose’s fearless and enlightening reporting, qualities highlighted by the independent judging panel.
Established by Sanlam in 1974, the competition attracted a record 170 entries from 13 African countries this year.
In addition to Rose, other notable winners included Siki Mgabadeli, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award for her extensive career in financial journalism, and joint recipients of the Best Newcomer Award:
Abdulkareem Mojeed, Ephraim Modise and Innocent Samuel Muhindo.
The awards aim to promote excellence in financial journalism across Africa and recognize journalists’ contributions to the industry’s growth and development.
