A motorcyclist was also shot dead

A police inspector and an unidentified commercial motorcycle rider were, on Wednesday, killed by armed robbers who attempted to rob FinBank Plc, Ajao Estate, Lagos.

The robbery attempt was made at the time when divisional police officers and other senior police officers attached to the Area M police command were busy receiving awards for gallant crime fighting in the state.

In the exchange of gunfire with the police, the suspected robbers killed two persons before being overpowered by the police firepower.

It was gathered that some police officers were escorting some staff of a plastic manufacturing company to the bank with an undisclosed amount when the robbers struck.

The robbers were said to have caused pandemonium in the area when they opened fire on the bullion van carrying some cash.

The state police spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the incident, said that the police foiled the robbery.

?The policemen were escorting the plastic company workers to the bank with the money when they were attacked by armed robbers who laid ambush and killed a police inspector, but the policemen foiled the robbery,? she said.

?The armed robbers escaped with bullet wounds but we are on their trail as investigation has begun to arrest the robbers still at large.”
