Police in Northern Region have arrested one armed robber with two others who were on the run after they shot and killed a police officer on patrol.
The incident occurred on Friday 25th March 2016 at Kalba a town in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District. The armed robbers who were escaping a robbery scene saw Corporal Yaw Lawpaw by the road side and opened fire killing him instantly.
District Police Commander, ASP Francis Numado who confirmed the news to News Ghana said the town shares boundary with Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso and serves as a trading hub so they normally embark on day and night patrols.
ASP Francis Numado explained that the robbers attacked and collected valuables from some people earlier “and came from the Cote d’Ivoire direction towards Kalba. When they met the police they shot one dead”.
He says the police managed to pursue the robbers who were on a motor bike and arrested one of them.
