Robbery suspect gunned by police in Bogoso

Police in Tarkwa have shot and killed a 32-year-old suspected armed robber for attempting to escape from police custody while assisting investigation.

The deceased suspect, Frederick Mensah, alias Nana One was said to be part of the gang that killed the 29 year-old police officer, General Lance Corporal Nicholas Duku, in a recent robbery at Bogoso in the Prestea Huni/Valley Municipality.

Superintendent of Police Kwabena Otuo Acheampong, Tarkwa Divisional Crime Officer, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

He said the deceased suspect provided of lot of information to the police since his arrest.

The Divisional crime officer stated that in the early hours of May 4, 2018, while the police were escorting Frederick to some areas within the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality and its neighbouring communities to gather more information, he took to his heels.

He said in an attempt to arrest the deceased suspect, the police shot at him and he got wounded.

The suspect was re-arrested and rushed to the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital, but he passed away while receiving treatment.

Mr Acheampong stated that the body has since been deposited at the same Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
