“A power blackout occurred on Wednesday at Ziga dam, resulting in disruption of the rotational water distribution program. This left at least half of the capital, especially the southern zones, without water supply,” ONEA said in a statement.

ONEA promised to place more emphasis on the southern part of Ouagadougou to ease the suffering of households due to lack of water for many days.

With a capacity to produce 200 million cubic meters of water, Ziga dam is currently producing only 108,000 cubic meters of water for Ouagadougou town that requires 183,000 cubic meters of water daily.

Since 2013, water shortage in Ouagadougou has increased from 28,000 cubic meters to 70,000 cubic meters due to intense heat and growing population, experts have said. Enditem
