The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a landmark partnership with Royal Air Maroc on Saturday, designating Morocco’s national airline as its Official Global Partner for major tournaments, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The multi-year agreement also covers youth competitions, continental club finals, and the CAF Women’s Champions League, reinforcing Morocco’s growing influence as a host of premier sporting events.
Under the deal, Royal Air Maroc will enhance logistical support for teams, officials, and fans traveling to tournaments, while amplifying its role as a continental aviation leader. The partnership aligns with Morocco’s ambitious sports hosting calendar, which includes AFCON 2025, the 2024 Women’s AFCON, and its co-hosting duties for the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe emphasized the strategic value of the collaboration, stating, “Royal Air Maroc’s world-class services will ensure seamless travel for teams and supporters, contributing to what we believe will be the most successful AFCON yet.” The airline previously supported Morocco’s historic 2022 World Cup campaign, during which the Atlas Lions became the first African team to reach the semifinals.
Royal Air Maroc CEO Hamid Addou framed the partnership as a commitment to Africa’s development, noting, “We are not just connecting destinations but fostering cultural and sporting exchanges. This collaboration underscores our dedication to elevating African pride and unity through football.”
To meet anticipated demand, the airline plans to expand its flight schedules and fleet, prioritizing routes from African nations and diaspora hubs to Morocco. These adjustments aim to streamline travel for thousands of fans attending events like the men’s AFCON, scheduled from December 2025 to January 2026, and the women’s tournament in July 2025.
The agreement signals a broader trend of African institutions collaborating to strengthen continental sports infrastructure. By addressing critical logistical challenges, Royal Air Maroc’s involvement may set a precedent for private-sector engagement in large-scale events, ensuring smoother operations and heightened global visibility for African football. As Morocco prepares to welcome teams and supporters, the partnership reflects a shared vision of leveraging sport as a catalyst for economic and cultural connectivity across the continent.
