Russia has resumed air traffic to Turkey, bringing large numbers of Russian tourists to the Mediterranean country for the first time in months.

Russian arrivals caused long queues at the airport in the holiday resort of Antalya on Tuesday, state broadcaster TRT showed.

More than 12,000 Russian tourists are expected to arrive in Antalya on Tuesday alone.

Arrivals from Russia need only a negative test result, and no vaccination is required.

Russia is struggling with great vaccination scepticism in the country; in Moscow, the number of new virus infections has recently risen again.

Moscow severely restricted air traffic with Turkey in mid-April because of the pandemic, a move which hit the Turkish tourism sector hard.

Last year, Russians made up the largest group of holidaymakers in Turkey with around 2.1 million visitors.
