Rwanda looks forward to supporting more investments in youth agribusiness opportunities, Rwandan minister of agriculture said Wednesday.

“The government of Rwanda actively supports ongoing efforts in the country to engage and empower the youth to venture into agriculture and agribusiness opportunities in order to create wealth and address youth unemployment,” said Gerardine Mukeshimana at an agribusiness conference in the Rwandan capital Kigali.

The one-day event themed on “engaging youth in agripreneurship” seeks to encourage young Rwandans to venture into the agriculture sector as a source of meaningful jobs that can create wealth and address unemployment.

She noted that agriculture is a huge wealth-creating sector that remains largely untapped by the African young entrepreneurs.

The youth in Rwanda have the potential to revolutionize the food and agriculture sector and generate economic growth which can boost employment and the economic transformation of the country, she said.

The conference that brought together more than 300 young people from across Rwanda and beyond featured interactive panels involving policy makers, youth leaders, business and innovation leaders, as well as key partners. Enditem
