Samuel Nartey George, a prominent advocate for the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, has called upon Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo to expedite the judicial process that has delayed the bill’s transmission to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for approval.

George expressed concern over the Supreme Court’s recent decision to defer rulings on injunction applications, which aim to halt the bill’s progress until a final judgment day.

In an interview with Accra-based Citi News, George underscored the pressing need to promptly resolve the matter, emphasizing its urgency.

“Even during court vacations, urgent national matters are heard. The court can convene during this period. We demand that this critical issue be prioritized,” George asserted.

“This case has lingered since March while other equally important cases have been swiftly resolved. The Chief Justice’s pace contradicts her religious beliefs and traditional affiliations,” George continued. “She must act swiftly in alignment with her professed values.”

George’s remarks underscore the ongoing debate and legal challenges surrounding the anti-LGBTQ+ bill in Ghana.
