Defending champions Samartex 1996 will commence their title defence with a clash against Dreams FC as the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League (GPL) season kicks off on September 6.
Samartex, currently focused on its debut in the CAF Champions League, is eager to maintain its domestic dominance after clinching its maiden GPL title last season.
The upcoming GPL season will span 34 matchdays, with a deliberate absence of midweek fixtures aimed at easing clubs’ workload. A one-week hiatus is scheduled before the December 7 elections.
Asante Kotoko, undergoing a significant squad overhaul with ten new signings and 21 departures, will begin their campaign away against Karela United.
The Porcupine Warriors are determined to reclaim the league title, last won in the 2022/23 season. Meanwhile, arch-rivals Hearts of Oak will host newly promoted Basake Holy Stars in their season opener.
On the opening day, Medeama will face last season’s runners-up Accra Lions in another compelling fixture, alongside matches featuring the newly promoted sides.
The season’s highly anticipated first Super Clash will witness Asante Kotoko hosting Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium on matchday 13.
Regional rivalries are set to intensify, including Brong Ahafo battles among Nsoatreman FC, Berekum Chelsea, Aduana FC, and Bechem United, as well as Western Region showdowns involving Medeama, Basake Holy Stars, and Samartex. The Ashanti derby between Asante Kotoko and Nations FC also promises excitement.
With teams gearing up for fierce competition, the 2024/25 GPL season promises captivating action as clubs vie for the prestigious league trophy.
