The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat has interviewed 275 applicants from various tertiary institutions in the Bibiani- Anhwiaso-Bekwai Bekwai Municipality for the award of the government scholarship to enable them to finance their education.
The interviewees involved students from Colleges of Education, Nursing Training Colleges and Universities, both public and private.
In an interview with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Alfred Amoah said the government through the Scholarship Secretariat has decentralized the scholarship scheme to ensure fair and equitable distribution of the package in all Districts, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies.
He added that President Akuffo-Addo desired to see every Ghanaian youth not denied the best of education.
“The President introduced Free Senior High School hence it was prudent to extend the scholarship to those at the tertiary level so they can also enjoy”
According to the MCE, last year more than 200 tertiary students in the Municipality applied for the award of the scholarships but 120 of them were shortlisted for an interview out of which 89 were selected by the secretariat to benefit from the scholarship.
Mr. Eric Kwame Kontoh Boateng, a level 100 student perusing Human Resource Management at Valley View University, who went through the interview, commended the government and the scholarship secretariat for decentralizing the scheme to the grassroots level and was hopeful his application would go through.
