School children mark Chinese Spring festival with rich cultural display in Ghana

There was a brilliant cultural display put up here , Tuesday by pupils of the University of Ghana Basic Schools and some from the Confucius Institute to mark the 2019 Chinese Spring Festival.

They treated the large audience of dignitaries to the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Wang Shi Ting to various forms of performances including the famous Dragon and Lion Dance, and Wushu (Kunfu) and Shaolin Luohan Boxing.

Addressing the audience during an interlude Wang Shitting, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana acknowledged the role being played by the Confucius Institute, organizers of the event by introducing Chinese culture to the people of Ghana.

“Thanks to our joint efforts, the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana is being widely recognized. More and more Ghanaian people begin to know China, understand China and fall in love with China through the institute,” the ambassador stated.

He expressed satisfaction about the rate of increase in the number of enrollments in the Confucius Institute with figures running around 5000

“A new year brings new hopes. China looks forward to working with Ghana to embrace a brighter future for bilateral relations

“In Chinese culture; pig is a symbol of fortune, luck and happiness. At the dawn of the Year of Pig, I wish the China-Ghana relationship a brighter future,” Wang added.

The Chinese zodiac has denoted this year as the year of Pig. The pig is the 12th of all zodiac animals and the Chinese believe the animal has a beautiful personality and are blessed with good fortune in life.

Sweet melodious tunes and many forms of Chinese dance as well as poetry recitals were on display during the event which was organized by the Confucius Institute in conjunction with the Chinese Embassy in Ghana. Enditem
