The motorbikes were procured under the accountable grant One & Two of the DFID-funded ?Literacy for Life Change Project?, which the School for Life is implementing.

The SfL implements functional literacy for out-of-school children with funding from DANIDA, UNICEF and DFID, which is aimed at giving out-of-school children who are beyond the school starting age an opportunity to attain basic literacy and numeracy.

Under the Literacy for Life change project, two vehicles and motorbikes were among several other assets acquired with funding from DFID and having successfully concluded the Project, the assets are to be transferred to the Ghana Complementary Basic Education (Ghana CBE) Programme, which is also funded by DFID.

Ten of the motorbikes that have deteriorated but are still in good condition are transferred to the nine District Directorates of Education where School for Life is currently implementing the Ghana CBE Programme, namely Yendi, Mion, Sagnarigu, Zabzugu, Kumbungu, Nanumba South, Wa West, Central Gonja and Saboba Districts.

Presenting the motorbikes to representatives of the beneficiary districts in Tamale on Thursday, Mr Sulemana Osman Saaka, Programmes Manager of SfL underscored the importance of education hence his outfit’s intervention to salvage the plight of out-of-school children.

He said the programme, which had been in operation since 1995, had benefited over 170,000 children and their families and gave the assurance that consistent funding would always be sought to help the less privileged children and their parents.

Mr Saaka said apart from the presentation of the motorbikes, other logistics such as computers and their accessories, laptops, vehicles and furniture would also be presented to the beneficiary districts.
