The Principal of Lunats Technical and Vocational Institute at Agona Swedru in the Central Region, Mr. Seth Adu-Micah has called for scrapping of Technical and Vocational education in the country, because according to him, successive governments have failed to give the sector the necessary impetus and support it needs.

Mr. Adu-Micah who expressed the worry in an interview with Newsghana pointed out that technical and vocational education has been perceived by people in authority as a preserve for the academically less endowed students.

He said by this negative perception, successive governments have failed to give technical and vocational education the needed attention it deserves, making its running difficult.

According to him, what is most worrying is that none of these people in authority prefer sending their children to these technical and vocational schools.

He pointed out that technical and vocational institutions are supposed to offer pure practical skill to students, but rather their courses have become more theoretical than practical because of the kind of examinations conducted by the mother body, NAPTEX.

Mr. Adu-Micah also criticized the introduction of Free SHS policy by the government, saying it discriminates against students in technical and vocational schools.
