Seedstars World, the largest startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes is coming to Ghana for the 7th time.

With the support of the local host Stanbic Business Incubator Ghana, Seedstars will be holding a dynamic pitch event on the 8th of August, 2019, at 4pm in Accra.

A release from Seedstar copied to News Ghana, indicated that, in order to provide local entrepreneurs with this opportunity and aiming to deliver the best possible event, Seedstars will closely working with Tom-Chris Emewulu of SFAN (Stars from all Nations), who is representing the initiative throughout the year.

According to Tom-Chris Emewulu, Founder at Stars from all Nations (SFAN), “Seedstars World is the world’s biggest entrepreneurship competition in emerging markets. As such, winners are immersed into one of the largest entrepreneurship communities on the planet and are given the tools to scale their businesses. We are looking for brilliant seed-stage startups in Ghana to represent the country at the worldwide Seedstars Summit in Switzerland. If you think you got what it takes, send in your applications right away!”

The stakes are higher than ever as we’ve been in this ecosystem for more years now and know there are companies in Ghana’s developing high-quality products. We are looking for the best and asides attending the Africa regional summit, they have an opportunity to be chosen to represent Africa at the global summit in Switzerland in 2020!” said, Claudia Makadristo, Regional Manager for Africa at Seedstars.

Stanbic Business Incubator Ghana is the main sponsor of the event. It has been a local partner of Seedstars since 2015.

“We have continued to support this cause as an incubator because it’s a great platform to help startups in Ghana, gain exposure, access to market and access to funding,” Foster Awintiti Akugri, Incubator Manager at SB Incubator Ghana explained.

According to the organizers, the companies invited to the training session and to privately pitch at the Seedstars Accra event need to be less than two years old, have raised less than USD 500k in funding and built a minimum viable product, ideally with existing traction.

The Seedstars team is also searching for one additional criterion which is the startup’s regional and global scalability.

However, applications are open until the 29th of July and startups are invited to apply at Where after a careful screening, the Seedstars team will shortlist around ten of the best seed-stage startups in Ghana to pitch on the 8th of August for the opportunity to compete at the Seedstars Summit, that annually takes place in Switzerland.

Seedstars is a Swiss-based private group of companies with a mission to impact people’s lives in emerging markets through technology and entrepreneurship. The groups’ activities cover over 80 emerging ecosystems through a variety of events such as the Seedstars World Competition, acceleration programs, physical hubs called Seedspace, venture capital investments and company building activities.

Seedstars World is the world’s largest startup competition in emerging markets. For the past six years, Seedstars Teams travel around for a 9-month world tour and scout for the best early-stage startups in 65+ countries, organizing 100+ events.

One winner is selected to represent each country visited, and is invited to attend one of the 5 Regional Summits, reuniting all local winners of each region to network with regional investors, mentors and corporates. Local winners are also awarded the chance to represent their countries at the Seedstars Summit, the competition’s final happening in Switzerland, where startups compete for up to $500,000 in investment.
