The decision was made at a government’s session arranged after recent floods, torrential rainfall and watercourses that caused the evacuation of 118 people and flooded 710 houses across the country.
Emergency was declared mostly in central and western municipalities where floods destroyed people’s properties and arable land.
Serbia has deployed armed forces in Kraljevo, Cacak, and other cities along the West Morava River which were in most immediate danger.
Local authorities report that the water levels of rivers are currently decreasing.
Serbian Prime Minister said early Tuesday at a business forum that the floods were nowhere near those that struck Serbia in 2014, but the government would declare a state of emergency as a means of prevention.
