Seven mourners died Thursday night when the Rhino Tipper Truck on which they were travelling skidded off the road and somersaulted, Ghanaian media has reported.
The accident which took place at Asamankese, 74 km north-west of the capital Accra had five males including the truck driver and two females losing their lives while 64 others were injured.
The Asamankese Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Tefutor Keletsi said the mourners were following a motor hearse which was conveying the body of their deceased relative from the Asamankese government hospital.
“But on their way back the truck driver who was drunk tried to overtake a vehicle wrongly but lost control of his truck, resulting in the accident,” he explained.
Bodies of the seven deceased have been deposited at the Asamankese hospital morgue while the injured were receiving treatment at the same hospital. Enitem
