In its fight against cholera disease, the Sokoto State Government has set up a rapid response committee to prevent the outbreak and spread of the disease and other related communicable diseases across the 23 local government areas of the state.
Membership of the committee drawn from the Health Ministry, its agencies, other line ministries and health-related donor agencies is charged with routine surveillance across the state, and to be alert to take prompt action on any suspected cases, the state Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu said.
Aliyu said the measure was necessitated by the recent outbreak of gastroenteritis in Kebbe and Tambuwal Local Government Areas of the state.
“We thank God that the problem in these two local governments had been brought under total control since October 21. This was done, however, when about 12 lives were lost and the state government was deeply concerned,?? he said.
