To achieve a smooth implementation, a training session has been organized by the port authority to school shipping lines and their agents.
Hitherto, it took between 3 to 4 days for the bookings of space for vessels to be approved but now shipping lines and their agents can book space for their vessels within 24hours at their own convenience.
The electronic vessel booking system which is expected to bring relieve to shipping lines would also improve the turnaround time of services in the port.
The IT Manager of GPHA, David Boison said the e-vessel booking is part of the strategies to automate the port of Tema to serve clients better.
“This service is going to help our clients by cutting down the time they spend visiting the port, chasing staff with paper work to have service provided. This is electronic it is real time it is fast so it is instant service that we are providing to our clients,” he said.
He added that shipping lines don’t need to send agents which cuts down the cost of transportation as well as stress.
“They can sit anywhere with their ipad, galaxy and even desk top computer to do booking,” he added.
