Capitec and Showmax have announced a new partnership that dramatically reduces subscription fees for the streaming service, allowing the bank’s customers to pay only half of the standard rate.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Showmax revealed that Capitec’s 12 million active banking app users can now purchase Showmax streaming vouchers starting at just $1 per month.
This substantial discount is part of Showmax’s strategy to strengthen its market position against international competitors and establish itself as Africa’s leading streaming video service.
The discounted subscription plans are exclusively available to Capitec clients through the bank’s app and include the following:
- Showmax Entertainment Mobile: $1 per month
- Showmax Premier League Mobile: $1.88 per month
- Showmax Entertainment: $2.70 per month
Introducing these reduced-price bundles coincides with the start of the new Premier League football season, which kicks off on Friday.
Additionally, Capitec is enhancing the offer by providing 5GB of data for $8 through its mobile virtual network operator, facilitating its customers’ access to the Showmax bundles.
Henk Lourens, Group Executive for Strategic Initiatives at Capitec, explained the bank’s support for the streaming service: “We want to make entertainment available anywhere and anytime at very affordable rates.”
This collaboration underscores Capitec’s commitment to adding value for its clients while supporting Showmax’s efforts to dominate the streaming market in the region.
