The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has urged politicians to shun anti-progressive activities and work for the collective interest of the nation’s democracy.
Maku said this when Sen. Ibrahim Mantu-led members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) project reloaded, paid a courtesy visit in his office in Abuja.
He called on members of the party to help deepen democracy, and urged them not to be dissuaded by the string of controversies that had threatened the party?s unity and existence.
“For our democracy to succeed, the party must have people who believe in it because the PDP has succeeded in sustaining democracy in Nigeria in the last 14 years.
“It is appalling to note that the major antagonists of the PDP are members of the party themselves.
“I can say PDP is the only party that has done so well for Nigerians and yet it is still facing opposition from some selfish individuals. This we must shun,?? he said.
Maku said that members of the PDP must spearhead efforts aimed at informing the public about the achievement of the party
He decried the situation where members of the party sought for the destruction of the party, even when its achievements in the past years were glaring for Nigerians to see.
The minister said that there was a lot about the achievements of party that many Nigerians were yet to know about and needed to be informed.
He urged leaders and members of the party to stand up and support the growth of the party, noting that its present challenges would be overcome if members remained united.
According to him, the PDP reloaded cannot have come at a better time than now that there is an increasing need to publicise the achievements of the present PDP government.
He pledged his support for the PDP reloaded group, and urged other members of the party to join or work closely with the group to take the party to greater height.
Earlier, the leader of the team and a former Deputy Senate President, Mantu said that the group was set up to support the transformation agenda of the PDP government.
He said that the group had been involved in mobilisation campaigns across the country to reawaken the consciousness of the people about the gains of the government of Jonathan.
Mantu said that they were at the ministry to solicit the minister?s support to further advance its efforts to create more awareness on the achievement of the government.
He commended the minister for the good job of providing credible and vital information on the achievements of the government to all Nigerians.
