Sources close to Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie aka ?Sir John? have revealed that the incumbent General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party is considering stepping down in the race for the General Secretary due to the recent backlash he has suffered in the hands of Party faithful, the media and top Party officials in the wake of his recent media outburst that the New Patriotic Party will support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the Party into the ?2016 Presidential Elections if Nana Akufo Addo decides to call it a day.

This statement which was made on an Accra-base Citi FM on Monday 17th February is however the most recent episode as the outspoken lawyer and General Secretary has had countless incidents in the past where his focus of discussion in the media landscape and his resultant opinion has not gone down well with a lot of Party supporters and sympathizers.

Just as the dust of Nana Akuffo Addo?s return is almost settled, the incumbent for some strange reason went on radio and created an impression across the country of Nana Akuffo?s retirement from politics on Citi FM. It has been reported, however that Dr. Bawumia was not happy with the stance of the General Secretary and has spoken to Party stalwart to talk to Sir John and call him to order.

The under fire General Secretary is said to have soberly reflected on his decision to step down in the race when people close to him in personal life told him the honest truth. Sources indicated that Sir John is continually worried about the kind of image he has carved for himself politically since he became the General Secretary and also the sort of impression he has created in the minds of people in the Party and beyond especially with his style of communication.

It has also been revealed that if he finally decides to cede his bid to be re-elected into office he will most likely throw his weight behind Lawyer Buaben Asamoa, popularly known as YB. He strongly believes that Yaw Buaben Asamoa will make a credible General Secretary like Dan Kweku Botwe was and will certainly be the best candidate to succeed him.

Nevertheless, all four aspirants are on the road and campaigning across the country to harness votes to enable them become the next General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party come 12 April, 2014.
