Nii Ayitey Konko, the chief priest of Ngleshie Alata, who was tragically shot dead in a violent clash, had previously petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over threats to his life.
On September 19, 2024, Nii Ayitey Konko submitted a petition to the police commander raising concerns about an unresolved case involving alleged threats and criminal actions being perpetrated by one Dr Prince Asharku Bruce Quaye and Nii Appiah.
The petition, addressed to the Ghana Police Service, outlines issues stemming from an earlier incident reported on February 15, 2018, to the Jamestown Police Station, which remains unresolved.
The case revolves around accusations against Dr Prince Asharku Bruce Quaye and Nii Appiah, who allegedly led a group of thugs and broke into the sacred stool room of the Ngleshie Alata Palace.
Despite the serious nature of the accusations, which reportedly include threats and other criminal behavior, the petitioners claim that neither Dr Prince Asharku Bruce Quaye and Nii Appiah has been properly investigated by the authorities.
The petitioners expressed frustration at the inaction of the Jamestown Police, urging for a thorough investigation.
Adding to the urgency of the situation, Dr Prince Asharku Bruce Quaye has allegedly boasted in public on multiple occasions that no police force could arrest him.
This statement has only heightened concerns of the petitioner, who faced threats and intimidation.
In his petition, Numo Ayitey Konko pointed out that if any harm were to befall him, the responsibility would fall on the Ghana Police Service for failing to act on the reported case.
Meanwhile, barely a week after petitioning the Ghana Police Service over threats on his life, Numo Ayitey Konko was shot dead during a violent confrontation between two rival factions.
The deadly clash has left the community in shock.
Eyewitnesses reported that Nii Ayitey Konko was caught in the crossfire as tensions between the factions reached a boiling point.
The unknown assailants who were on motorbikes, according to eyewitness ambushed the chief priest.
Sources suggest that disputes between the groups had been escalating over time, ultimately leading to the fatal violence.
At this stage the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Authorities have launched an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and have called for calm within the community as they work to restore order.
The death of the chief priest has left a deep void in the community, and residents are now anxiously awaiting further developments as investigators work to determine the root cause of the deadly clash.
