The Medical Team of Biyalsis Guritaaba Social Club, a group of professionals, has embarked on medical outreach programme at the Feo community in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.
The Medical Team made up of Dietitians, Physicians, Pediatricians, Obstetricians, Surgeons screened over 700 people made up of the youth and elderly and some treated freely and those with complications referred to the Bolgatanga Regional hospital.
The Club, additionally, donated consumables including various types of medicines valued at 29,659 Ghana cedis to the District Directorate of Ghana Health Service, who supported in the event, to be distributed to health facilities in the area.
Speaking to the Media after the event on Monday, the Medical Director of the Upper West Regional Hospital and a Member of the group, Dr Robert Amesiya, stated that he was overwhelmed with the turn out.
He stressed on the need for people to take their healthcare needs seriously by constantly going for checkups and stated that the organized medical outreach programme revealed that many people are living illnesses without them knowing that.
He commended the Bencyn Pharmacy Limited, Gina Pharma Limited, Endswell Pharmacy, Eye of God Pharmacy, Wedam Medical Centre, the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Edward Bawa and the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for Bongo constituency, Diana Aburiya for jointly supporting the event.
The President of the Club, Mr John Asaana, explained that the Club which is made of various professional background and connected to childhood and school friends , organized the event to commemorate the death of one of their members from the Feo community , Lawyer Stephen Asuure who passed on last year.
He indicated that the vision of the club is to provide service to the community through partnership with network of stakeholders and partners, promote and strengthen the social and economic development of member and perpetuate lifelong friendship,
The Member of Parliament for the area, Edward Bawa, who is also member of the Club stressed the need for the group to sustain the event by organizing it annually in other communities.
Ms Dina Aburiya thanked the Club for organizing the event as part of activities to commemorate the death of her late husband, Lawyer Stephen Assure.
The Chief of Feo, Naba Azare Ayenaba who was diagnosed with high blood pressure during the screening exercise and managed by the team, thanked the club members and reiterated that the proramme be replicated to other communities.
The Assemblyman for Feo Electoral area, Mr Elvis Nyaba commended the NGO for the effort and indicated there are many people in the communities who cannot afford to cater for their health needs.
Majority of the members of the Biyalsis Guritaaba Social Club also joined the Medical Team for the outreach and provided their services where needed.
