Somali National Army (SNA) killed two al-Shabab militants and wounded several others after conducting an operation at a location near Baidoa town, in Southwest State, officials said Friday.
SNA commander for 60th Unit, Dahir Moalim Ali told Xinhua by phone that the forces also defused a roadside bomb in which the militants planted on the main road linking the town to the capital, Mogadishu.
Moalim said there were no casualties on their side during the operation which was conducted at Deynunay village.
“We killed two al-Shabab terrorists and injured several others at Daynunay area near Baidoa town in Bay region. We also defused landmines at the main road connecting the town to Mogadishu safely yesterday on Thursday afternoon,” Ali said.
He added that SNA and regional forces are working together in counter-terrorism and will intensify the onslaught against the militant group which has been terrorizing Somalis.
Al-Shabab militants did not comment on the latest military operation by SNA in southwest Somalia so far.
Government forces have intensified operations against al-Shabab in the southern regions, but the militants are still in control of the rural areas of those regions, conducting ambushes and planting landmines. Enditem
