
Somali President Mohamed Farmajo on Friday congratulated Antonio Guterres on his re-election as the UN Secretary-General for a second term beginning January 1, 2022.
Farmajo said the re-election of Guterres which came after the UN Security Council had unanimously recommended his name to the 193-member body for re-election, reaffirmed the belief in his dedicated service to humanity.
“As you continue serving as ninth secretary-general, Somalia assures you unwavering support,” said Farmajo in a Twitter post.
Guterres was the only candidate from the UN’s 193 Member States to vie for its top job after being nominated by his homeland, Portugal.
His first five-year term began in January 2017. Enditem
