The Minerals Council South Africa on Wednesday expressed concern over electricity load shedding which is affecting their production.

“The Minerals Council is gravely concerned about the deepening crisis around electricity supply, which not only negatively affects the mining industry but the entire economy at a time when energy security is critical to attract investment, for economic growth and job creation to stabilize government debt and reduce the fiscal deficit,” said Minerals Council CEO Roger Baxter.

South Africa is experiencing load shedding for the past weeks due to breakdowns at its power plants. Sometimes, the power goes out for almost eight hours a day. Enditem
