The African National Congress (ANC) stalwarts and veterans on Thursday said the national consultative conference to be held next week would assist the party to rediscover itself and resolve the problems bedeviling it.

This was said by the party stalwarts and veterans at a press conference in Johannesburg. The ANC consultative conference would be held on November 17-19, 2017.

Billy Ramokgopa, who leads the Strategic Dialogue Group, told Xinhua after the briefing that the meeting would enable the party to reflect on challenges and come up with solutions.

He said, “This would be a reflective moment for the ANC, we have to search in ourselves and look at our weaknesses and capitalize on our achievement. We want the ANC leadership to intervene at the identified leadership.”

Some of the issues to be addressed include how to foster economic growth and how to enable the party to have credible leaders.

The ANC will also discuss the state of the party and unemployment in the country and how to improve education.

Ramokgopa said, “We want to address credibility, corruption in the party. The morale in the party is down. Some of the bad things happening in the party have made people to doubt us as the ANC which can’t transform the country and provide service delivery.”

The stalwarts have met the party’s top six leadership, ANC national executive members (NEC) and provincial leadership in the country.

The stalwarts have invited President Jacob Zuma, NEC members and the civil society. The alliance partners, South African Communist party and the Congress of South African Trade Unions will also attend the consultative conference. Enditem
