Spain has advanced to the men’s Olympic football final after a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory against Morocco in the semi-finals.
Morocco’s Soufiane Rahimi, the tournament’s top scorer, initially put his team in the lead with a penalty in the first half, marking his sixth goal of the Games. However, Spain responded fiercely in the second half.
Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez equalized by pouncing on a loose ball in the penalty area.
The decisive moment came with five minutes remaining when substitute Juanlu Sanchez scored the winning goal, securing Spain’s place in the final.
In the other semi-final, France triumphed over Egypt 3-1 after extra time, setting up an eagerly awaited final clash with Spain in Paris on Friday at 20:00 BST.
Morocco will face Egypt in the bronze medal match in Nantes on Thursday. Morocco’s journey to the semi-finals included a 2-1 win over Uzbekistan, followed by a victory over the Dominican Republic despite a final group stage loss to Egypt.
They then advanced with a 3-0 win over Japan in the quarter-finals.
Spain recently won Euro 2024, and it will aim to add another major trophy to its collection in the Olympic final.
